Tirza Contreras Galeano is a Civil Engineer from the Central American Technological University of Honduras (UNITEC) and has a MSc degree in Hydrogeology and Water Resources Management from the University of Costa Rica (UCR). Since 2011 she has been working at the National Electric Power Company of Honduras, specifically at the Francisco Morazan Hydroelectric Power Plant, where she has developed hydrogeological research applying isotopic hydrology to determine the origin of leaks in the dam site and its surroundings. She has participated with poster presentation in 2 isotope hydrology symposiums organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. Currently directs and coordinates as a country counterpart a regional project, financed by the IAEA in which, in addition to isotopic hydrology, 2 more nuclear techniques are used, the project in question is called: “Strengthening of Surveillance Systems and Monitoring Programs. monitoring for hydraulic facilities in the Region, using nuclear techniques to assess the impacts of sedimentation as a social and environmental risk".
