Dr Elena López Gunn is Founder and Director of ICATALIST (www.icatalist.eu), and an IPCC Lead author of Working Group 2 on Adaptation in Chapter 4 on water. Elena is passionate about groudwater as part of a wider complex system. She is a geographer by training, with a Master in Environment and Development (Univ of Cambridge), a PhD in Geography (Kings college, London) and a Master in investigative journalism, and data visualization (Rey Juan Carlos I with El mundo newspaper, Spain). Elena is particularly interested in the development of natural assurance schemes that give value to positive externalities from healthy functioning ecosystems as protection from increasing water risks, where aquifers provide a real promising venue in the context of a changing climate to provide socioeconomic resilience for human development.
